LARCHMONT VILLAGE, Calif. – Take a drive to Larchmont Village for some Italian specialties nestled in a small store front. But it wasn’t always this way.
John Boccato opened Larchmont Wine Spirits and Cheese as simply a wine shop in 1995.
Leaving his career in finance behind, Boccato wanted to collect a variety of unique wine that you couldn’t find at any old store.
“We have a good selection of things you won’t find elsewhere,” said Boccato.
From there, he decided to do the same with cheese. He planned on selling gourmet selections, but his neighborhood customers had other ideas.
“They came in and saw what we had and said, ‘How about you make a sandwich for us?’” said Boccato.
From one sandwich to five, to hundreds — word of these delectable sandwiches spread and Boccato needed to hire more workers to keep up with the demand.
This small family-run wine shop is now known for its various meat and cheese baguettes, sometimes selling up to 500 a day. Boccato owes consistency and quality to his success, with employees that have been with him for years.
“We have a very consistent group of people that work for us and very dedicated,” said Boccato.
Lines grow out the door during the lunch rush, so head to Larchmont Wine and Cheese early to get your hands-on fresh quality sandwiches.
Sandwiches are only sold between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. but you can call and order ahead to pick up later.
Larchmont Wine, Spirits, and Cheese is located at 223 N Larchmont Blvd. Los Angeles, CA.
