Larchmont Boulevard is Your Path to Celebrate LA!

If you’ve been looking for a reason to play tourist in your own town, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and CicLAvia have teamed up to give you the perfect opportunity.  On Sunday, September 30th, the LA Phil is celebrating its 100th season by throwing a free, eight-mile street party—Celebrate LA!—which will connect Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Hollywood Bowl. Grab your bike, stroller, skates, or just walk and enjoy the car-free streets as you soak in the creativity of 1,800 musicians, artists and dancers who will perform at the festival’s six hubs and along the eight-mile route

Larchmont Boulevard is perfectly situated to help you prepare for, enjoy, and celebrate this special day. Like previous CicLAvia events, all non-motorized wheeled forms of transportation are welcome. This is great news for the younger set because there are some sweet rides awaiting at Landis’ Labyrinth Toy Shop.  Candy-colored Plasmacars are kid-powered ride-on cars that are perfect for 3-year-olds and up. Landis also has retro-styled tricycles and an array of metal and wooden scooters.

As you’ll be promenading through the heart of Los Angeles, you’ll want to look sharp. Pick up a stylish flatcap, fedora or straw hat from Goorin Bros.and don’t forget to pick up some sunscreen at Larchmont Beauty Supply. It’s hard to look dashing with a sunburn.  And speaking of the sun, take a pre-ride spin through Perverse Sunglassesand find the pair of shades just right for you.

While you’re prepping for the big day, you might also want to assemble a gourmet picnic to bring on the road fromLarchmont Wine, Spirits & Cheese. You can choose from an array of deli sandwiches and a selection of cheeses, beverages and snacks from around the world. Just be sure to come in on Saturday as the shop is closed on Sundays.

On the day of the ride, you have lots of options. You’re welcome to enter the route at any point and you can go in either direction. Larchmont Boulevard is not on the main trail, but meets it at Melrose Avenue. This means you have an awesome on/off ramp to all the excitement and a quieter oasis to fuel up for your journey. Choose from a myriad of options such as quick to-go items like Mexican Street Corn from Tacos Tu Madreor a Spicy Tuna Bowl from Sweetfin Poke’. If you’re in the mood to linger, do. Roads stay car-free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Whether you’re hankering for a pizza from theVillage Pizzeria, Curry Salmon from Pradoor something in between, there are a variety of restaurants that can please your pedaling party or skater set.

In the evening, enjoy a free concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Gustavo Dudamel will conduct the LA Phil and welcome guests including Katy Perry, Herbie Hancock, Kali Uchis, and the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. Between acts, be sure to pass your pals some Chocolate Chunk Cookies from Mr. Holmes Bakehouse.  It will end your perfect day on a sweet note.
