The Beauty of Spring on Larchmont

More than one transplant from the East Coast or the Midwest has complained that Los Angeles has no seasons. But once you’ve lived here a while, you can see the signs—sometimes literally—like the ones on Larchmont Boulevard promoting new spring beauty products and treatments.

Over at MAC Cosmetics, the operative word for spring will be “glow.” According to Sammy Alfonso, the assistant manager at the Larchmont store, MAC will be rolling out their “Supernatural Glow’ line of skin care and make-up products. Colors will be lighter in keeping with the season.

“Nothing too theatrical,” said Alfonso, “It will be very natural and organic”.

Alfonso added that every Sunday the store offers classes with a key artist to demonstrate how to use MAC products. Reservations are recommended.

Michelle Morales, the manager at the beauty store and spa Bluemercury, said she knows what will be big this spring.

“Sheet masks are huge right now,” said Morales. “Every brand is launching a new mask this spring.”

Morales explained that sheet masks are individually wrapped treatment masks, sometimes made of coconut fiber. A product, perhaps one that hydrates the skin or one that “detoxes” acne-prone skin, is infused into the mask.  A client then places this mask on his or her clean face and lets it sit for 10-15 minute for best results.

In the world of make-up, Morales said highlighter sticks will be featured this spring along with lighter colors in “spring palettes” for cheeks and eyes.

To celebrate all the new products, Bluemercury will be hosting their Spring Beauty Festival this March. Over three separate weekends, the store will offer complimentary mini-makeovers, tips and tricks for clients, each featuring different brands.  Appointments are recommended.

For those who are looking to go a step beyond make-up, there’s DMH Aesthetics.

“We have the newest technology for getting tighter youthful skin without going under the knife,” said manager Jackie Miller.

This technology includes VISIA, a consultation tool which will provide a thorough analysis of your skin. If problem areas are identified, laser treatments are available that can target a host of skin issues including fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, pigment, broken capillaries and sun spots.

However, the most requested treatment at DMH Aesthetics is CoolSculpting—a non-surgical contouring treatment that freezes fat which is then naturally eliminated through the body. Miller suggests interested clients should browse the DMH Aesthetics website or to speak with an associate to learn more about the services they offer.

If you think spring is the time to try a new trendy hairstyle, the staff at Vincent Hair Artistry can help. Owner Jurgen Sauer said his seasoned hair dressers will discuss with a client whether the style is right for them, possible adjustments, and what maintenance would be required to sustain it. Vincent Hair Artistry also offers several other salon services including manicures, pedicures and later in the year, microblading, a semi-permanent technique that shapes eyebrows.

The barbers at the Larchmont Barber Shop, an iconic Larchmont business that has been around for over 50 years, keep an eye on trends, but specialize in classic styles such as The Gentlemen’s Cut and other styles for professionals.  Although their clientele is predominately male, owner Jorge Hilario said the shop welcomes women with short hair.

Each month, Bellacures, a salon for hands and feet, selects a different scent to feature in a special, full experiential service. This March, whether you choose a manicure, a pedicure or both, you can look forward to the “Peach for the Stars” treatment which includes a cranberry orange warm soak, fresh peach sea salt scrub, a minty clay mask, moisture rich paraffin, fresh peach butter cream, a ten minute massage and a callus treatment as needed.

Other businesses on the boulevard ready to cater to your health and beauty this spring include the massage and beauty salon, Radiance of Life, the skincare providers, Malin + Goetz, the full-service salon Jessica’s From Sunset and the Larchmont Beauty Center which has been helping clients stay beautiful with a collection of products and a variety of salon services for almost thirty years.

And don’t forget Rite Aid. Where else can you find a watering can, fill your prescription and get a great price on mascara?  Revolving promotions at Rite Aid mean deals can come up at any time on some of your favorite beauty products and accessories. So even if you’re just coming in for a pack of gum, it might be worth it to take a spin around the beauty aisles.
